This wine is made from sun-dried grapes of Grillo and Catarratto, giving it an orange-golden color with a lusciously sweet and creamy character. The practice of sun-drying grapes, particularly in Sicily, dates back to ancient times and was used in the production of wines like Marsala. This method allows for the creation of a dessert wine with a delicate balance of sweetness and acidity. The slow fermentation process, aided by the gradual addition of sun-dried grapes, allows the wine to develop a rich, concentrated flavor, while the 7 months of aging in wood barrels and 12 months in bottle provide the wine with the necessary time to evolve and integrate its components, resulting in a wine that is complex and sophisticated
On the nose, this intense wine offers distinct notes of apricot and candied orange peel. Notes of date weave with fresh aromas of sage and calamint, with a finish of tobacco and of hydrocarbon. On the palate, it expresses remarkable acidity that is well-balanced with the sweetness.
Feudo Montoni has been producing top-quality wines on its historic grounds since 1469 and is currently overseen by Fabio Sireci, the third generation of a family dedicated to producing the most refined expressions of this long-cultivated terroir. Rosario Sireci purchased the Feudo Montoni estate in the late 1800s upon discovering a wealth of ancient vines, and passed down the property his son. Located in the heart of Sicily and planted in sand and clay, this certified organic winery produces many of Italy’s most celebrated 100% indigenous varietals – Perricone, Nerello Mascalese, Catarratto, Grillo and Inzolia– in addition to the purest expression of Nero d’Avola.
Feudo Montoni, situated in the mountainous heart of Sicily, has been producing highly-acclaimed wines on its historic grounds since 1469. Helmed by Fabio Sireci, third-generation winemaker, the estate was purchased at the end of the 1800s by Fabio's grandfather, Rosario, who recognized the unique fertility of the historical vineyards. Today, the certified organic winery produces many of Italy’s most celebrated indigenous varietals—Perricone, Nerello Mascalese, Catarratto, Grillo, and Inzolia —in addition to 'Vrucara,' one of the purest expressions of Nero d’Avola. Sireci is particularly proud of the organic farming methods, artisanal cellar practices, and renewable energy sources he’s implemented and maintained, which he says preserve the grapes’ natural flavors and nuances. Fabio and his family are honored to know their plants one by one, know which vines produce the best wine, and have selected them as 'mother plants' from which the 'genetic code' is drawn and transferred into the new vineyards. All operations in the vineyard are undertaken completely by hand, and the results speak for themselves: thanks to Fabio and his family's dedication and the vineyards’ high altitude, fluctuating temperatures, plentiful rainfall and prperty's olive groves and wheat plots, Feudo Montoni wines have staked their claim among the finest in the region.
