Domaines Leflaive cultivates 2.16 hectares in the appellation Pouilly-Fuiss©. Pouilly-Fuiss©, the flagship region of the Mconnais, is cordoned to the west by a flotilla of prow-shaped rocks, of which the Rock of Solutr© is the most famous. (At the base of this cliff is a Stone Age archaeological site containing the skeletons of over 100,000 horses î which gives the name to the archaeologic era of the Solutrian.) The bowl at the foot of the Rock of Solutr© is the heartland of the Pouilly-Fuiss© appellation, with some of the best soil forming strata on which Chardonnay grows in all of Burgundy. Composed of fossiliferous marl and marly limestone, the area was under the shallow Jurassic sea millions of years ago.

There’s fine concentration to this white, lending viscosity to the texture and embracing flavors of peach, white flowers and honeydew melon. Light baking spice and pastry notes linger on the finish.

While the historic vineyard holdings off Domaine Leflaive in and around Puligny require no introduction, there are still many who are not familiar with the extensive investment the domaine has made in the last decade (and more) in the Mcon, about an hour and a half drive south. Since 2004 the domaine has expanded into the Mconnais and cultivates some 20 hectares in Mcon-Verz© and Solutr©-Pouilly.

The roots of the Leflaive family go back to 1717 when Claude Leflaive took up residence in Puligny-Montrachet, intent upon cultivating several acres of vineyards. The Domaine, in its present form, was created by Joseph Leflaive between the years of 1910-1930, as a result of his successive purchases of vineyards and houses. In 2015, Brice de La Morandi®re, great-grandson of the founder, succeeded Anne-Claude Leflaive, pioneer in biodynamics, as the fourth generation at the head of the Domaine following his international corporate career. It is with the same philosophy of respect for the great terroirs, humility toward the forces of nature, and relentless pursuit of excellence in viticulture and in winemaking that the Domaine will continue to grow in the future.
