Mal Bien White Tape Espadín Morales is a traditionally produced mezcal from San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. Originally created from a recipe by the late Lucio Morales López, it is now produced by his son Oscar Morales García and other family members. The Morales family represents four generations of mezcal-making knowledge and regional tradition. This expression is produced entirely from Espadín agave, scientifically identified as Agave angustifolia. Mature agave is cooked for five to seven days in a pit oven using encino and white pine. The cooked agave is crushed by tahona before undergoing natural fermentation in open-air pine vats. Fermentation lasts approximately four to six days before the spirit is distilled in copper pot alembic stills. Its profile combines smoked cherry and leather aromas with salt, earthy sweetness, dried citrus and lingering herbal notes. Bottled at 91 proof, or 45.5% alcohol by volume, it is suitable for sipping neat while remaining assertive enough for mezcal cocktails.
