During Prohibition, Old Forester and five other Kentucky distillers were issued permits to bottle existing whiskey stocks as medicine. In 1930, the federal government granted these distillers a 100-day window to replenish their declining stocks. During this historic period, Old Forester was distilled at 130 proof.
