The Dalmore Cigar Malt Signature Reserve Aged 18 Years is a new permanent addition to The Dalmore's Principal Collection, expanding the brand's acclaimed Cigar Malt range with its first age-stated expression. Matured 16 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, then finished across four more cask types, it's bottled natural in colour, non-chill filtered, at 46% ABV.
After 16 years in ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky is finished in a combination of Matusalem Sherry casks, French oak Marsala casks, French oak Cabernet Franc barriques, and French oak Cabernet Sauvignon barriques. The bourbon barrels lay down sweetness, the Matusalem Sherry contributes dried fruit and nuttiness as the whisky's base character, the Marsala casks bring warm ginger and spice, and the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon barriques add tannin and dark fruit structure. At 46% ABV, The Dalmore says this strength helps refresh the palate between draws of a cigar.
The Cigar Malt range began more than two decades ago as the first Scotch whisky explicitly designed to complement premium cigars rather than simply accompany them. Cigar Malt Signature Reserve Aged 18 Years sits above the long-running Cigar Malt Reserve in The Dalmore's Principal Collection, built specifically for pairing with smooth to medium-bodied cigars.
Pour it neat alongside a smooth to medium-bodied cigar, taking slow sips between draws to let the whisky refresh the palate and reveal its layered cask influence.
It is bottled at 46% ABV, natural in colour and non-chill filtered.
The original Cigar Malt Reserve carries no age statement and is bottled at 44% ABV using three cask types. The Signature Reserve is 18 years old, bottled at 46% ABV, and uses five cask types.
It spends 16 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, then is finished in Matusalem Sherry casks, French oak Marsala casks, Cabernet Franc barriques, and Cabernet Sauvignon barriques.
