Contacto Alvarinho is obtained from the noble Alvarinho grape variety grown exclusively in the sub-region of Monߣo and Melgaßo. The location of this sub-region provides it with a temperate climate, being surrounded by a range of mountains on the Spanish border, which allows us a unique combination between precipitation, temperature and light required for the perfect maturation of the grapes. For the production of this wine, vineyards were selected near the river with granite soils of sandy loam texture. Located at low altitude, with alluvium and fluvial terraces well present, offering the wine complexity, minerality and bitterness typical of the variety

The wine exhibits clean tropical and citrus uit flavors with a stony mineral f inish. It is full-bodied with great structure and balance.

The Symington family recently acquired an estate in the prestigious Monߣo and Melgaßo sub-region of the Vinho Verde DOC in northern Portugal – named Casa de Rodas. The Symingtons will produce a range of Alvarinho wines from the 27.5 hectare vineyard with legendary Vinho Verde producer Anselmo Mendes as winemaker. The two families have now decided to create a new company, with equal shareholding, to distribute the wines produced from the property – the first of which will be made this year. The joint venture will also acquire the renowned Vinho Verde brand, Contacto, produced by Anselmo Mendes. The 100% Alvarinho wine has seen enormous success in Portugal and internationally, and both families believe it has great potential for further development.
